Growing up...

As I sit here on this random Thursday morning (as I am done school for the year, I have time to just sit, hehe), I am thinking about the things I have to do today. Lots of usual daily things, but tonight I am going out for supper with 3 of my girlfriends, Chelsea, Sarah and Marita. I have known Chelsea and Sarah for about 6 years now, and Marita for about 3. The reason we are going out for supper is we are celebrating something. That something is Marita getting engaged to an awesome guy named Paul (CONGRATS YOU GUYS!!! :D). It feels kind of weird to say that "my friend just got engaged", it doesn't sound like something I should be saying. But I mean I am 20 now, but for some reason I still feel like we are all kids in a way.

I think it is just me realizing how fast time really flies. I mean when you are a little baby your parents take care of you and provide you your needs and as you get older you learn how to do things on your own, like walking around and crawling. With that may come some obstacles, like running into a table (oh no, that never happened to me, hehe). As you continue to get older, you are continuously learning new things, some come easy, others take more effort. Along every step of the way however you have your parents, or someone who cares helping you along the way, helping you get up and telling you to keep trying after you've hit your head on that table and are bawling your eyes out. Throughout life we have people that are there to help pick us up.

When you get into your teenage years, most kids don't want anything to do with their parents and would much rather be a million miles away. But as you get past those tough years, you begin to see your parents in a different light. You see them more as people, and less like parents. You may also begin to see your parent as a friend and someone who you can really feel confident in confiding in. Even when you are 20 or 30, your parents and people who care about you are always there for you, no matter what.

As I sit here, and realize that I have rambled about things for the last 10 minutes, I should really get to my point. My point is, that life is short, and time flies very fast, even if you don't think so, and even if you think that everything is going at a good pace. One day you will wake up and realize that you are 20, 30, 40 or even 50 and you have so many things in life that you want to do. So stop what you are doing, and think about what you want and what you want to in life. I mean it really stop and think, it's okay, I will wait............................................................................................................................................... Okay. Done? Whatever you want to do, just do it. It doesn't matter what others may think, just as long as you are happy and doing things you love to do.

The people who truly love and care about you will always be there for you, and support you every step of the way. Life is short and you should try and live as many moments as you can happy and fullfilled. Never go to sleep angry with someone, especially those that you love the most. Cease the day, and live everyone moment as if it is your last :)

My Dad's Trip To England

On Saturday evening, my dad returned from his trip to England. He had gone for Vaisakhi and also to celebrate his birthday. He had an awesome time, and came back with some really cool stories. One of the funniest being a few of my aunties getting together and singing happy birthday to my dad, hehehe. I wish I could have been there for that. Here are just a few pictures of his trip.

This is my Mamaji and my cousin Manjot. It is at Martindale Gurdwara during the Vaiskahi weekend.

Here my dad is in my Bob Pajee's new car. Verrry nice car!!

These are my two favorite nieces, Adesh (left) and Simrin (right). They are sooo much fun. They are always so much fun to hang out with. The best is when they want me to teach them Canadian words which usually leads to them laughing and asking, "why would you call an aubergine and eggplant??" Hehe...

Now these two people, not quite sure who they are?? I have never seen them before. Maybe they were lonley and so my dad decided to take a picture of them. Hehehehe, only jokes. This my Meena Bhenji (also known as Ram-E) and my Jeejaji (known as Binda) in B'ham at Satnam Bhenji's house. Both these two jokers can make me laugh in about 10 seconds, hehe.
Now here we have my awesome Satnam Bhenji and cool pharmacist Jeejaji Satnaam. He always has wicked pharmacy advice :). My dad was able to hang out with them for a couple days and meet little Jr (who by the way is sooooo adorable).

Here is the terrible two, hehe. Naaaah, these two are awesomness. Miss you guys loooads!

Here Binda is enjoying a bowl of cereal very enthusiastically, hehehe.

Here is my dad, also enjoying a bowl of cereal, with the same enthusiasm that Binda is showing.

In this pics, (left to right), there is my cousin Manjot, my Mamaji, my Maserji, my dad and my Rani Masi. My dad was able to spend an evening at their house, before he left. Miss you guys!

ਵੈਸਾਖੀ

I wanted to wish everyone a happy vaisakhi. I know everyone knows the meaning and the significance of it, but I thought I would add this for today.
Guru Gobind Singh, the Tenth Guru of the Sikhs founded the Khalsa (Community of the Pure) at the Baisakhi gathering in 1699, at Keshgarh Sahib near Anandpur. Guru Gobind Singh, had organised for followers from all over India to meet him at the Basakhi Fair in Anandpur.
Guru Gobind Singh emerged from a tent with a sword, and asked for volunteers to offer his life for his faith. A young Sikh volunteered, followed the Guru into a tent. Shortly after, the Guru reappeared alone with his sword covered with blood, and asked for a second volunteer. Another Sikh stepped forward and again the Guru took him into the tent, and re-appeared alone, his sword covered in more blood. This was repeated for a third, fourth and fifth volunteer. The crowd became very unnerved, as many believed that the Guru had killed the five Sikhs. He soon came out of the tent again, this time followed by all five Sikhs who were alive and well and dressed in turbans and other symbols that have since become symbols of Sikh identity. He called the five Sikhs the Panj Pyare - the beloved five.

Then the Guru put water in a bowl for sprinkling over the five in a simple initiation ceremony. He said prayers as he stirred the water with a short steel sword; symbolising the need for strength. The Guru's wife, Mata Sundri, then came forward and placed some sugar crystals into the holy water or amrit as a reminder that strength must always be balanced by sweetness of temperament. After completing his prayers, the Guru then sprinkled the amrit over the five.
He declared them to be the first members of a new community of equals, to be called the Khalsa, meaning "pure". These "saint soldiers" were to dedicate their lives to the service of others and the pursuit of justice for people of all faiths. The Panj Pyare were asked to wear five distinctive symbols of their new identity, The Five Ks.

In a move to end social divisions the five dropped their surnames - traditionally associated with one's caste - and took the common name Singh, meaning "lion", a reminder of the need for courage. At the same time, the Guru gave Sikh women the name or title Kaur, meaning "princess", to emphasise dignity and complete equality.
The Guru then knelt before the five and asked them to initiate him. Hence, the Khalsa became a community in which master and disciple were equal.
For Sikhs, this seasonal festival also has great importance as the founding of the Akal Khalsa (Soldiers of the Timeless One) at Anandpur Sahib. The Akal Khalsa played an important role in resistance against Mughal rule. For many centuries after that, the first male child of many Hindu families in Punjab was ordained as a Sikh in order for him to train and become a warrior and fight for the people. Other male children used to take care of the family, parents and the land.

Happy Birthday Satnam Bhenji!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to wish my Satnam Bhenji a verrrrrryyyy, verrrryyyyy HHHHHHHHAPPPPPPYYY BIRRRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOO HOOOOOO!!! Wish we could be there with you, but I hope you have an awesome day, and many, many more to come!!! Love yaaaa!!!!

Another Starbucks quote...

I have come across another Starbucks quote which made me think....

"Many people search blindly for the “meaning of life.” What they don’t seem to understand is that life does not have meaning through mere existence or acquisition or fun. The meaning of life is inherent in the connections we make to others through honor and obligation."

Many people go through life asking themselves day after day, "what does life mean?" They are always looking for a reason for why certain things happen. I do believe that everything happens for a reason, however I do not sit and ponder for long periods of time, thinking to myself and asking "why did that happen?" To me life is about being happy, living everyday with people who you love and care about and who love and care about you as well. It is about taking on every opportunity that comes a you and living in the moment.

To me, life is meant to be enjoyed and not to be pondered. Enjoy every moment, because you never know what tomorrow may hold.

Sukhmani

I recently came across this really nice short poem which I thought I would share with all of you. I am not sure what the poet's name is, but if you know, please leave a comment.

Sukhmani

Eh akhar nahi, eh pathre nahi, Eh siinaa hai Guru Arjan dha.
These are not mere words, nor are they mere pages. They are the body of Guru Arjan.

Eh akhar nahi, eh pathre nahi, Eh siinaa hai Guru Arjan dha.
These are not mere words, nor are they mere pages. It is the body of Guru Arjan.

Darshan karna Sukhmani dha, darshan karna Guru Arjan dha.
If you recite the Sukhmani with all your heart, It is like meeting Guru Arjan.

Oh how time flies

As I sit here on my week off from unni (woo hoo, lol), I relalize that time is going by so fast, and there isn't a lot you can do about it except savor every moment you can. I am almost 20, and I know that to many of you that seems still young. It is young, but for me I see it has, holy crap I am almost 20. That seems like a big number to me. Maybe it is because there are so many things that happen to us in our 20's. These things include graduating unni, getting married, and perhaps having children. It is just a scary thought, knowing that I will most probabaly be married and moved away from home in a few years. It seems like yesterday when I was just starting high school.

From seeing this, I have realized that you really have to savor the moments you have with your family and friends, good and bad, happy and sad. You don't know what lies ahead of us in the future or even tomorrow. I think that a lot of us take things for granted and we should really relaize that everything won't be the way it is forever. This also makes me want to take better care of myself so that I can be healthy and be around for as long as I can.

Knowning that life is short, I have the outlook that you have to take things as they come, and that if given an opportunity to do something spontaneous, or to do something that you have always wanted to do; then do it. It may be something simple as trying a new food that you have been wanting to try, or fixing things up with a friend of family member. Just knowing that no one knows about tomorrow should be enough reason to want to do those things.

I will stop my rant here, just thought I would let you know what I was thinking about latley. Another thing I think is good, is never go to bed angry at someone. Whether it be a friend, a parent or a spouse. You never know about tomorrow so make things right while you can. Tell someone you love them. Tell them you care and make someone feel special. Making someone smile is the biggest thing you can do for someone. :-)

Valentines Day

Valentines day is one day in the entire year (birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions aside) that most guys will go out and do something extra ordinary for the one they love. The days leading up to Valentines Day, you will see guys roaming around the shops, looking for something to give their girlfriend, finance or wife. If you think about it, it is really cute. It's so funny when you see the guy awkwardly standing in la senza, not quite sure where to go or what to buy. They are making this effort and looking for something that their significant other will really appreciate. The ladies also put in their effort, hoping for a romantic evening and just spending real quality time with their significant other. The only thing that bothers me, is that why only take one day out of the year to "proclaim" your love for someone, why not spontaneously do it anyday? Maybe I am thinking crazy again, haha. But I just think that it is really, really sweet when you surprise your significant other, in any way, and put in that little extra effort to show them that you really care, not just on a specific day.

All my ideas aside, I hope that everyone is well and that they have a good Valentines day. Spread the love! :-)

Dreams...what do they mean?

Dreams. Everyone has them at some point, but not everyone talks about them. You always learn that dreams are a way of your unconscious thoughts coming out in some way. When you are asleep and there is nothing that you are consciously thinking about, your mind goes to the unconscious. Some people have dream journals, and write down their dreams the second they wake up. Others, say they don't dream, or maybe it's just that they do not remember their dreams whent hey wake up. For some, dreams may have a lot of meaning and may make you think "what does that mean?" I am one of those people. To me, dreams make you think. If you wake up and ask yourself, "what does that mean?", you will most likely be thinking about the dream for awhile. I remember when I was younger, I used to have many strange dreams. I would dream about life size Spongebob-like characters chasing me across my driveway. Then I would wake up in the middle of the night scared and would hide under my blanket. When I was younger I used to have a lot of nightmares, and scary dreams, many that I still can remember clearly to this day. When I got a little older, the nightmares and scary dreams slowly stopped. Maybe it is beacause as a child you are always afraid of the "monsters under your bed" and in your dark room, a shadow of the door may seem like a strange creature to you. I think this is because as a child you have a grater imagination, and you are not worried about "life" things, such as work or school, or family and friends. You are just a happy go lucky child with an imagination. I had this one phase a few years ago when I used to have many dreams about me being shot, or someone chasing me with a gun. I honestly to do this day have not figured out why I had those reoccuring dreams. The weirdest thing of all was that whenever I would have a dream that I would actually get shot, I could feel myself getting shot, and would instantly wake up. I told one of my friends about it, to see what she thought. And her reply was, "you'll be the first one of us [out of all my friends] to die". I was like, gee thanks. As I have gotten older my dreams have changed and thankfully no longer have those scary nightmares. Nowadays my dreams are pretty random, they don't make very much sense and they often leave me thinking, "what does that mean?". In my dreams there will be some people I know, some that I have never seen in my life. The dream may start off in one location and suddenly be somewhere else, and they often make absolutley no sense at all. What do my dreams mean now? I don't have the answer to that one. I really wish I did though. I think that we all dream for a reason and that it's a good thing that dreams make us think. Just so long as we are not spending every waking hour thinking, "what does that mean?" I guess should stop my rambling about dreams now. If you anyone has any weird or cool dreams they wanna tell me about, let me know. :-). Take care everyone, and dream on.
